These scores are taken directly from the judges’ individual score sheets that they use while judging. They have been recorded ‘as is’ and without any editing, so as to give a Crystal-clear view of what the judges saw and scored.
The technical scoring is one aspect of the judges’ final decision-making process – but our judges are encouraged to use their ‘gut’ feeling, their own previous dance experience and their personal judgement in addition to simply using the technical scores. And of course, the audience ranking will also affect the final result.
You should also note that scoring differs from category to category, so it is difficult to compare absolute scores from one category to another – for some categories, technical scoring has only been done on one track, while for another it has been done on three tracks (although final placing always takes into account all tracks played). For some categories, there are different technical criteria that are being evaluated.
The scores for
most categories are made up as follows
Basics: the judges are looking at the use of
Close Hold, Travel
,
Variations and
Entry/Exit into close hold.
Style: the judges are evaluating
Timing, following the
Music, the
Amount
of styling, and the use of
Variety within the dance.
Musicality: the judges are paying attention to whether the dance reflects the
Energy
of the music, matching its
Mood, attention to
Phrasing and observing
Pauses and breaks.
For
Centre Stage the judges also look for the
Dramatic content: whether the dance tells a
Story, its
Visual elements, the
Wow factor and whether the dance Fits the
Mood of the track.
Ultimate Challenge has its own rules! Here we have:
Expression: how Expressive the dance is – the Entertainment factor – the amount of Variety – and the use of Flash and drama.
Response:
Whether their
Timing reflects the music - whether they are in
Control
of the dance - maintaining
Connection to each other and to the music-
Stamina (and pacing!).
